There has been a predictable response to artificial intelligence (AI) art. Seeing the cry for banning AI art altogether, reminds us of anti-robot tropes that we see in a plethora of science fiction stories. It’s expected. Especially when a technology is complex enough, policy makers and individuals will struggle to develop fair solutions to a problem.

Some of the anti-AI posters (left) look like something straight from a science fiction movie.

However, we should be wary when considering the abolishment of any technology. In doing so, we are uncertain what doors we close. The classic example is nuclear energy; a technology that we had such an averse response to that we have set back the energy industry by several decades. Additionally, Banning the technology may limit public use but unscrupulous companies could continue using it.

Instead of moving to abolish AI art let's consider what the real danger of AI art is and what it is not. People have already begun to overestimate AI art as a job killer, which is far from the case. From an understanding of the dangers of AI art, lets also explore potential avenues of mitigation.
